THE ART I LOVE πŸ’ƒπŸ’–

We all have an art that we like. So the art I like is dance. Dancing is connected with Rhythm and movements. And also Sri Lankan Dance divided by in 3 main categories. These are kandyan dance, low country dance and sabaragamuwa dance

Of these, I like the kandyan dance the most. Kandyan Dance is one of the most popular dances in Sath Korale, Satara Korale, Udu Nuwara , Yati  Nuwara , Dumbara, Hewaheta and Harispattuwa.

Also, the main costume of Kandyan dance is the ves costume and the main instrument is the Gata bera. And also, the main shantikarma of the Kandyan dance is the Kohomba Kankariya Shantikarma. I will introduce these to you now.

Ves costume

The Ves costume, called Su-Seta Abharana and this is the male kandyan dancer costume.

This  costume include Jatawa,Paimpatha,Sikabandhanaya,Neththumalaya,Thodupath,Devuramalaya,Bandhivalalu, kaimettha,Karapatiya,Aulheraya,Bubulupatiya,Inahendaya,Hangala,Devalla and Ulludaya.

This costume is similar to the dress of the King of Malaya. And wearing a Ves costume gives a solemn, royal appearance.

Gata beraya

The gata bera is most famous in the upcountries. Many people gata beraya introduce to Magul beraya and Udarata beraya . It is related to the mridangam, the pakhavaj, and the kendang. And also gata beraya use for every wedding processions and special events or occasions. Both sides of the Gata bera are covered with leather. This gata bera double sides are made from two different skins, one from a monkey and the other from an ox.

And also the drum is made of wood. Usually from the Margosa tree, Ehela tree or the Jackfruit tree. The four syllables of the gata bera are thath, jith thon and nan.

Kohomba Kankariya Shantikarma

Kohomba Kankari has a long history and the Kohomba Kankariya Shantikaram is performed for the King Paduvas. The gods are worshipped in the Kohomba Kankariya. these are New Kohomba, the old Kohomba, the great Kohomba. Moreover the Black prince (Kalu Kumara), Ambarapati (Pattini), God Weeramunda, God Kadawara, Kudaguru, Mahaguru, and the group of 36 ancestors of veddhasor Adivasi are also included here. The Kohomba Kankari ceremony is held 3 months after the planting of the kap. Also, there are many rituals performed before and on the day of Kohomba Kankari.

So this is the art I love. Thank you!
